The Rod
Okuma SST Halibut Rod is 5'6" 1-piece, which gives you a ton of leverage when battling big Lingcod and Halibut. The rod is rated for 80-120 lb line, and is stout enough to handle fishing with 1-3 pounds of lead. The triangular foregrip is unique to this rod and offers a ton of leverage when you are in the midst of cranking up heavy fish from the depths of the ocean.
The Reel
Okuma Convector 55L is one of our favorite workhorse reels for offshore fishing. It is a great option if you are looking for a star-drag levelwind reel for Halibut. It holds a ton of braided line, has a reliable drag, and can handle the fight of a true barn door Halibut.
The Line
To complete this combo, we spool the reel with P-Line EndurX 80 pound braided line. The reel can fit 590 yards, and that kind of capacity allows you to fish at any depths, and in many offshore locations allows you to continue fishing even if you break off on a drift.
